I'm a mum of 3 my youngest is 2 and was born with complex needs. During all of my appointments, meetings, meet and greets and mother's and toddlers I've realised there are so many non verbal children around us. I know as an adult sometimes the world can be scary but imagine being a child trying to have people understand you when you just can't get the words out. I've done some Makaton courses & I've been able to communicate with the kids. I'm not perfect at it but I know all the basic signs like hungry tired sad happy no more food the list goes on. These signs are so easy to learn & then it got me thinking after teaching my 10 year old the signs how amazing it would be if young children were taught a few basic signs in school so when they are in a park with non verbal children they can at least communicate a little Even should it be as simple as hello do you want to play. Kids always find a way to communicate but with the world now we need to educate our children with basic signs if not the use now how beneficial would it be in Thier grown adult work life if a customer comes in & cannot speak they can use the basic skills they learned in primary school to make that persons day a little easier.
