Hands Off Italian Pasta! Block the New Tariffs Now

Hands Off Italian Pasta! Block the New Tariffs Now
The Issue
Italian pasta is more than a pantry staple — it’s part of our meals, our memories, and our communities. But that could soon change.
The U.S. Commerce Department has proposed a massive 107% tariff on Italian pasta imports — a combination of anti-dumping penalties and existing European Union tariffs. That means prices for your favorite pasta brands like Barilla, Garofalo, Rummo, and La Molisana could double or even triple at your local grocery store — or disappear altogether.
Industry leaders are warning that these tariffs would “virtually wipe out” Italian pasta exports to the U.S. and erase years of supply chain investment. Restaurants are already switching to in-house alternatives. Shoppers could be next — left with fewer choices and higher prices for something as simple as spaghetti.
Even worse, these penalties are being applied because two companies didn’t submit paperwork — and now the Commerce Department is using that to penalize the entire group. That’s not fair, and it doesn’t reflect the values of a competitive, transparent economy.
These tariffs won’t protect American jobs — they’ll hurt small businesses, limit consumer choice, and inflate grocery bills for millions of families. Italian pasta is not a luxury item — it’s affordable, nutritious, and beloved across the country. Why punish consumers for trade politics?
We’re calling on the U.S. Department of Commerce to reverse the proposed 107% tariff on Italian pasta and adopt a fairer approach that doesn’t penalize an entire industry — or American families.
Sign the petition if you believe pasta should stay on U.S. shelves — affordable, available, and authentically Italian.
