We, the undersigned residents and business stake holders in Hamilton are calling on the City of Newcastle to remove the pantry located in Hamilton Station Park, also known as Awaba Park.

While we support the efforts to assist those in need, the illegal set up and management of this pantry has led to ongoing issues in the park. These issues include: repeated instances of Antisocial Behaviour, Noise Disturbances, Littering, Loitering, Violence and Aggression, Bullying, Intimidation, Theft, Vandalism, Harassment, Drug and Alcohol use, Public Disorder, Public Urination and Defecation, Stalking and Sexual Assault. 

Over time this has naturally had a negative affect on the Beaumont Street and the surrounding community. As those who live and work in Hamilton and who are most impacted by issues associated with the pantry, we respectfully request that authorities and organisers also remove the pantry upgrade from the Hamilton Station Park Redesign Project Plan.

Unlike the Gregson Park upgrade, no community consultation has been sought. This petition is time sensitive as we understand works are due to commence shortly.
