As of today, January 31st, Ctk has announced its new lunch model for the semester model. The lunch has been split into three parts, consisting of 40-minute lunches. Lunch A is from 11:10-11:50 am. Lunch B splits your third class unevenly and is from 11:50-12:30. Lunch C is from 12:30-1:10pm. Previously our lunch was split by grade and had 50 minutes, making the most sense due to Covid. Now, our semester 2 schedules are being changed and the three options for lunch are randomized. Not by grade. Therefore, you can be with any grade, creating chaos as grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 are together. This new “precaution” does not affect Covid. Making less sense due to reasoning you’d be seeing other grades aka many different cohorts. It is strongly apparent that this is ineffective and causes more harm than good. Creating stress on students as they will be separated from their friends, and have a new environment of students. This is harder to transition to, especially coming from a quadmesters model to a semester, 40 minutes instead, and lunches randomized. With this being said, seven days before our new semester, we don’t even know our classes. As school precautions of Covid continue to lessen, this makes no difference in the fight against the spread. This new model strengthens the exponential growth while creating stressful environments for students. Therefore, following the ministry of Health & Education: The new lunches are proven to have no direction in Ontario’s plan. Not to mention, this can extremely affect students' mental health. Which is at its worst currently due to the Pandemic. The HCDSB’s decisions throughout this pandemic have made it extremely harder for students to maintain good mental health. Such as last year's model and the quadmester’s model. With this new policy, students may be separated from friends creating anxiety. As well as this chaotic environment increases stress.
