Halt the Unjust 96.3% Rent Increase on Selston's Beloved Tea Rooms

The Issue

Our community cherishes our local tea rooms, a safe haven that serves fresh home-cooked food to all. Recently, they have initiated a toddler morning, providing a space for parents with young children to gather, chat and share experiences. They even extend their services by delivering food to vulnerable members of our community who are unable to visit the tea rooms themselves. This facility is used and loved by both young and old in Selston.

However, an alarming 96.3% rent increase has been issued by Selston Parish Council which threatens the existence of this cherished establishment. Such an increase is not only unreasonable but also detrimental to the survival of small businesses like our beloved tea rooms.

The UK Small Business Association states that average rent increases for small businesses range from 2-4%. A staggering 96.3% increase is far beyond this average and could lead to closure of these vital community hubs (UKSBA). This move would not only affect the livelihoods of those running the tea rooms but also deprive our community members - particularly those who are vulnerable or isolated - from essential social interaction and support.

We urge Selston Parish Council to reconsider this drastic decision and work towards finding a more reasonable solution that supports rather than undermines local businesses in our area.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving spaces like these where communities can come together over good food and warm conversations!
