Halt the Shutdown of 2G Cell Network in the United States

The Issue

I am an individual who cherishes my collection of vintage 2G and 3G cellphones. These devices, though not the latest models, are perfectly functional and hold a certain nostalgic value to me. However, T-Mobile, the last carrier to support 2G in the United States, is planning to shut down this network by April 2nd this year.

This move will render all my vintage phones useless and it's not just me who will be affected. There are still millions of people using these networks across America. According to a study by GSMA Intelligence (2019), around five percent of mobile connections in North America still use older networks like 2G or 3G.

Shutting down these networks would mean forcing users into unnecessary upgrades when their current devices serve them perfectly well. This is not only financially burdensome for many but also contributes negatively towards electronic waste which is already a significant global issue.

We urge T-Mobile and other relevant authorities to reconsider this decision and continue supporting these older networks for those who still rely on them. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving user choice and reducing electronic waste.
