• We used to have wheelchair accessible, public loos on Chatsworth Road opposite The Castle Cinema (with a community led, solar powered cafe/bar above them). But we don’t any more.
• The Labour-run council shut them down, and they’ve been sitting boarded up and empty ever since.
• But we have a watertight plan to bring them back!  We want to create an environmentally friendly, community-led initiative that can generate income for the community (and council), at no cost to the community.
• This means we’ll get our public, accessible bathrooms back, and create a community led space designed for the local people.  
• This will benefit everyone living in and visiting the Chatsworth Road area.

Why is this important? 

In all East Hackney, there’s only 11 public toilets to serve a community of over 105,000 people.

• Mare Street Public Toilets: 30 minute round trip from the site.
• Millfield's Public Toilets: 36 minute round trip from the site.
• Hackney Town Hall Public Toilets: 36 minute round trip from the site.
• Hackney Downs Public Toilets: 44 minute round trip from the site.

This is even longer if you’re a wheelchair user, have mobility issues or have young children with you.

What do we need from you?

• Sign the petition and share it with your friends!
• Attend the rally outside Hackney Town Hall, on Monday 20th July from 5.30pm!
• Halt the sale, and bring back accessible public loos!

Help us create a community space, instead of selling more of Hackney off to the highest bidder!
