The Issue

Growing up in Utah afforded me endless opportunities to enjoy the remarkable beauty and recreational activities that our public lands offer. I have spent countless days fishing in pristine waters, hunting in vast open spaces, camping under starry skies, and hiking through breathtaking landscapes. These lands have been an inseparable part of my life, providing joy, solace, and a connection to nature that is invaluable. The thought of losing these cherished spaces to development and private ownership is heartbreaking.

Public lands are our shared heritage—they belong to all of us, not just a select few. Yet, some state senators are considering selling off our public lands, putting them at risk of being developed into private properties. Such actions would not only strip away our communal spaces but also threaten the ecosystems and wildlife that thrive there.

Public lands contribute significantly to our economy. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation generates $12.3 billion in consumer spending and supports 122,000 jobs in Utah alone. By protecting these lands, we are ensuring that local economies continue to benefit from tourism and recreation-related activities.

We must preserve this legacy for future generations. Selling public lands to private entities would deprive people of affordable recreational opportunities and create barriers that undermine our quality of life. It is crucial that we take action now to protect Utah's public lands from the threat of being sold off.

Join me in urging our state senators to halt the sale of public lands so that they remain accessible for everyone to enjoy. It’s time to make our voices heard and remind our leaders that public lands are irreplaceable natural treasures. Sign the petition and help keep Utah’s public lands public!
