Beechville, lakeside and timberlea needs a community pool in the approved $10m rec centre
BLT need for a community pool.
With the news and approval of the new 10M BLT recreation centre I have herd they plan on planing it after the new St. Andrew recreation centre and if this is the case and if they mean anything that they say about our new centre it will offer fully accessible recreation and fitness centre which will allow people to live healthier lives, helps grow businesses, and helps keep communities connected," he says. "And with the health and economic challenges presented by COVID-19, building healthy and resilient communities is more important than ever."
One thing I don’t see implemented in the new St. Andrew centre is a community pool and with our current and great population growth in our community of beechville ,lakeside and timberlea we could really use this and I believe it’s more of a need. community pools benefit people of all age groups and fitness levels
As a past employee of Halifax Rec. and having worked for four years with the summer and March break camps with the kids and youth in our community and having to do the daily planning for our camps and using what we had was at most times very difficult and sad although the kids always had fun it could of been better if we had a centre that offer newer equipment and proper space and kids and youth love swimming and lots of other centres in the HRM have a pool in their centre or near by where we had to bus the kids to pools and back and the budget only allowed to do this every couple of weeks. The summer camp programs are only 7 or so weeks long.
We had so little to work with and especially with the space we had to work out of and not having these things like a pool or even a splash pad it brings back memories of literally holding the water-hose up to the slide and making a water slide for the kids.
Community pools offer so much but the main things I think of are the benefits to the families of the BLT community and even expand in to maybe Prospect and Hubley.
Parent-tot swim
kids and youth (swimming lessons and recreation open swim)
More Jobs opportunities for youth and young adults
Water safety for people of all ages
Swim teams and competitive sports for all ages
Lane swims
Water fitness (any water exercise is so good for our joins and body especially as we age and or get any joint replacements)
some links of other benefits that are not from only my point of view as I am just one person from this beautiful community but I do believe it could be better and this rec centre is a great start.

Timberlea is such a diverse community for many family’s. some start here and move on and other settle and stay to call it home and raise their kids and so on and with having such a mix of ages and with more rentals coming to our community we will only grow and will continue to have a population of family’s, singles, kids, youth and elders I believe we need a community pool and I hope if you also believe this or agree you’ll help me with signing this change petition to create the awareness of the need for a community pool.
Thanks.
