Guelph CHC has decided to cut 8 drop-in playgroups so that they can hire 1 Parent Outreach Worker. This decision also results in 4 layoffs of individuals who had meaningful fulfilling work. The programs that they are cutting are local 2 hour playtimes that are an invaluable resource for building friendships, local community relationships, and function as a form of mental/emotional health support for parents, caregivers, and children. Many first time Moms report that they overcame PPD at these groups. These groups are a place for parents to connect with other parents while the kids engage in open, imaginative play. This petition is to respectfully request that this decision be reversed/modified to at least keep some of the playtimes available.
