Prohibiting discrimination for organ transplant list

The Issue

Currently only 13 states in the United States prohibit the discrimination against people with disabilities from being able to be on our organ transplant list. Michigan is not one of those states. This is absolutely unjust. Every baby, child, and adult should have equal rights to such life changing/saving opportunities.

I am a mother of a two year old little girl. She was born with Down Syndrome. If tomorrow, one of her organs were to fail and she needed a transplant she would be denied, solely because she has Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome does NOT define my daughter. It is a part of her, and she will have many challenges in her life because of that. Those challenges will be teaching moments, lessons learned, and experiences.  One challenge that she should never have to face, is not being able to be on the organ transplant list only because she has Down Syndrome.

Imagine your child, cousin, brother, sister, or loved one getting denied the right to live because they have a disability. I cannot even fathom the thought of someone telling me my daughter's life is not valued as much as another human because she has Down Syndrome. I cannot even fathom the thought of a doctor telling me my daughter cannot, and will not be able to receive an organ transplant because she has Down Syndrome. This is absolutely appalling to me. Down right disgusting,  that we can even think that one person's life is more valuable than another.

I am starting this petition to change the discrimination against people with disabilities. How do we teach our children inclusion when we as a state, and government do not practice it ourselves?
