Mohamad Alemarah started this petition to Governor Gretchen Whitmer and

Schools have not changed there education system for 150 years. That's 150 years of memorizing the same answer for every question, that's 150 years of students having depression, stress, and anxiety the prime killers for teens. And it doesn't stop there we call our selves a county of freedom when students are in a building that doesn't teach like its suppose to do but a building that makes kids and teens memorize different things that wont use in there life. The school system should give the students a chance to choose what they want to learn not force to learn something that wont affect them in the next 70 years or so. The only time they would every use math is for a job that involves that type of math, but the thing is that they need to learn the math for that job not memorize it in school. A great example of learning is history, it teaches us the flaws of humankind and what we need to learn from it and it also teaches us that our actions have consequences. That's learning, that's how we should teach students, students should be taught with real life problems. We need to be taught financial literacy, how to be nice to people and how to respect them, not something we already know, which goes back to the idea of memorizing. We as people, as whole should care more about our future generation because they matter the most in todays society. We need to give them to support they need to make a change for the future generation and the future itself. Another thing we need to do is help our teachers, our teachers need even more then we think. They do so much for students and they go home with minimum wage and a pile of 180 papers to grade for the next day and they still need to have a lesson plan. When do we have time for the ones we love on our lives when both students and teachers have piles of work to do. And students aren't the only ones that have depression, stress, or anxiety when they go home. In 2008 35 teachers took there lives, which is way to much. In 2009 it raised up to 63 teachers from then its raised by 30-40 percent then the national average. Its so sad that they took there lives  from something that could of been avoided, but we choose to ignore the fact that students and teachers die every year because of depression, stress, and anxiety. We need a change now more then ever now with everything going on in the world. The other thing is that its disappointing that it took a fifteen year old boy from Dearborn Michigan to say something to somebody bigger then he is now but not later because I'm gonna change the world but first I have to start with something that effects everyone in the U.S, Home of free and land of the brave.
