FORCE THE CLOSURE OF NONESSENTIAL BUSINESS: AUTOMOTIVE SALES

The Issue

CLOSE ALL SHOWROOMS AND STOP SALES FROM DELIVERING VEHICLES DURING LOCKDOWN.

Car sales should not allowed to remain open under the guise of an essential business. Dealerships are endangering Texas citizens to become victims to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced President Trump to announce a national emergency amid the COVID-19 crisis.

I spent several years being a part of the monster that is the "car industry" and I can tell you first hand, they do not care about your safety, health or wellbeing. We were taught to ONLY care about the "bottom line" & anyone who has dealt directly with them knows this to be an indisputable fact.

Why worry about supporting these disgusting monstrous companies even when they're offering 0% interest for 84 months and 120 day deferred payments?

We should worry because we are giving them the means and a reason to stay open despite fears for our immediate health and safety.

  • Almost from the moment it became clear a dangerous new virus was spreading in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the auto industry found itself at a turning point, many production plants and manufacturing being done at or near Ground Zero. An assortment of automakers operating in or near the city — including foreign makers Nissan, Kia, Peugeot and Honda, and Chinese domestics such as Dongfeng — were forced to halt production. Buick and other brands rely heavily on the parts being produced in these regions. GM and Volkswagen, two of China's big players, and several manufacturers in other parts of the country, including China’s automotive center, Shanghai, are feeling the impact. Italy and other areas heavily hit are also hurting FIAT and JEEP. Loosely translated, the automotive industries will have to make up the loss and it will be at the consumer's expense. Great deal? Great deception.
  • Per the CDC, the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths, eyes or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Some recent studies have suggested that COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms.
Maintaining good social distance (about 6 feet) is very important in preventing the spread of COVID-19 which is not feasible or probable on test drives, face to face negotiation and contracting.
  • The virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is stable for several hours to days in aerosols and on surfaces, according to a new study from National Institutes of Health, CDC, UCLA and Princeton University scientists in The New England Journal of Medicine. The scientists found that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was detectable in aerosols for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel. That means the gas pumps they are using to fuel your vehicle, the vehicle itself, the desk the deal was reached at, the paper which was handled and passed around all have the ability to potentially spread the virus.
  • Dealership executives and CEOs have hired legal teams to fight the closure of their businesses which was recently addressed by County Judge Lina Hildalgo for the harris county area. They do not care about the warnings, the safety of their employees, the family of those employed - why would they have the best interest of the purchaser in mind? Another insider secret: they don't. Humans are walking profit margins. (PSA: thinking that they donate to great causes therefore they cannot be part of the problem: that is a tax write off, not a kindness afforded for the betterment of society or for the health of our country)
  • "THEY PROMISED TO CLEAN THE SHOWROOM MORE FREQUENTLY!" Although many dealers are advertising a "caring side", much like after major disasters (ie. Hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, etc), in order to gain the concerned humanitarian facade. This persona only exists to create an opportunity for their success. They are not cleaning to the standards necessary to prevent continued spread and there is no system in place to ensure their health guideline promises are being met. I have yet to see or hear them offer protective gear (gloves, masks, etc.) to the customers or the staff.
  • "WE WILL BRING IT TO YOU!" They are offering to bring an infectious outbreak straight to your doorstep. Door handles, key fobs, steering wheels and direct contact of less than 6ft with individuals that have exposed themselves to the public and could be symptom free for the incubation period of 14 days.

Chief CEOs and Executives do not care to lose their paychecks at the cost of our lives. We are allowing them to help exacerbate a global pandemic. They will not stop without additional demands from our government officials.

Enough is enough - by failing to act we are allowing our society to succumb to the death toll we see in other countries, in allowing our families to mourn loss after loss, in continuing the spread (instead of the eradication) of COVID-19.

Please share, comment and support my petition for change. We need to support essential businesses that support our wellbeing, not our extermination.
