Why this petition matters

Started by Nick Bates

As residents living in close proximity to Higher Failsworth Memorial Park, we would like to request immediate action is taken by the statutory agencies and local Councillors to stop the Anti-Social Behaviour that is occurring most evenings but in particular every Friday & Saturday nights in the park. There are large groups of youths (from 0 to 100+) from high school age upwards congregating in the park from early afternoon till the early hours of the mornings every weekend. The youths are coming from Moston, Newton Heath and Failsworth to drink alcohol, do drugs, use cannisters, cause damage to the park and take part in arranged fights with weapons being used.

This type of behaviour has been going on for sometime now but this year even under a Pandemic has not deterred the youths for coming into the park. Even under lock down the youths still visited and will continue to even though as from this week a second lockdown has been announced. Nearby homes/cabins and cars are being damaged as a result of this constant behaviour and we fear someone is going to get seriously injured if immediate action is not undertaken.

Residents of Ravenoak Drive and surrounding areas are requesting a Community Trigger is commenced on receipt of this petition and the below actions are also considerded as a resolution to resolve this matter with immediate effect:

Public Spaces Protection Order

Community Protection Notice

Dispersal Order

ABC's

Injunctions

The reason we have had to take such drastic action as enough is enough, after Saturday night being one of the worst evenings we have had to endure with large groups of youths setting of industrial fireworks, throwing them at people which caused injuries, and houses and cars being damaged. We feel the Councillors, Police, services within Oldham Council need to act now to restore Failsworth back to a safe place to live without the fear of on-going nuisanace, annoyance, alarm, and distress being caused.
