Grant SIA security officers the blue light card

The Issue

As Security Industry Authority (SIA) officers, we dedicate ourselves to the safety and security of the public every day. Whether it's late at night at a bustling club, watching over a lively festival, or maintaining peace at your local pub, we are there, often putting our lives on the line. Yet, despite our critical role in keeping communities safe, we are left out when it comes to the benefits of a Blue Light Card, a discount card meant to reward those in safety roles.

SIA security officers step into situations that involve potential dangers and uncertainties. Our presence is often the last line of defense against disorder and harm. We share the same goal as our colleagues in the police, fire services, and medical fields: to protect and serve the public. However, we do not receive the same recognition or rewards. It seems unjust and discouraging that professions that are equally involved in public safety are overlooked.

To put it into perspective, teachers and other non-safety job roles are eligible for the Blue Light Card. While their contributions to society are valuable, the exclusion of SIA security officers from this program is an oversight that needs to be corrected. Acknowledging our contributions through such benefits is not only a matter of fairness but would also boost morale and enhance our perceived value in society.

Security officers play a vital role in preventing incidents, controlling crowds, and managing risks at various events and venues, which directly contributes to the safety and wellbeing of society. According to recent industry reports, the security industry in the UK employs over 400,000 people, many of whom operate in high-risk situations on a regular basis. Seeing as how security personnel are indispensable to public safety, rewarding them with a Blue Light Card should be a straightforward decision.

We are calling on the relevant authorities, including the Blue Light Card program administrators and government officials, to include SIA security officers in the list of beneficiaries. Doing so would not only demonstrate an acknowledgment of the risks we take every day but also show gratitude for our ongoing commitment to security and safety.

Please sign this petition if you believe SIA security officers should receive the same benefits as other public safety professionals. Let us create a balanced recognition system that fairly acknowledges the sacrifices made by all who work to keep our communities safe.
