Grant residents of East Coast Heights a Park!

The issue

East Coast Heights is a large subdivision in Silverdale. Once complete, there will be approx 600 homes, and a further 500 units at the neighouring retirement village.

In Stages 1 & 2, a park has been allocated at the corner of Pohewa & Silverwater Drive.

The park has been sold by the developer to Auckland Council and as such has been put into a priority queue for funding.  The developer has paid Auckland Council over $4 million dollars in development fees. And residents have paid premium prices for their homes.  Despite this, as part of Auckland Council's process, the park will not be developed within the next three years.

With Stage 1 being complete, and Stage 2 currently being sold, there is a desperate need for residents to have a communal and recreational area.  There are many families with young children and no safe area for them to socialise and play.  There is no communal area for social events to be held, such as community BBQ’s or meetings of importance (such as rising crime rates in our neighbourhood). The “park” is currently a roughly grassed vacant lot with no landscaping, no trees, seating or shelter. Absolutely nothing there. Some residents have been in East Coast Heights for 2 years already, and this “park” has only recently been regularly maintained in the past few months.

Please take the time to support our stance to convince Auckland Council to prioritise our local park being developed. If it was no problem for Auckland Council to approve the subdivision to begin with, there should be no problem to provide residents with a well considered, practical, landscaped park to enjoy and ensure their mental and physical needs are considered as a priority!
