Grant discharge from Gateway Recovery Centre

The Issue

I'm writing this petition because I am currently at the Gateway Recovery Centre in Widnes and I feel that my rights to make my own informed decisions are being unfairly taken away from me. Despite my ability to make clear, rational choices about my life, the head doctor refuses to grant my discharge, which feels intentional and unjustified.

Every person has the right to direct their own lives and make decisions for themselves especially when they are capable and informed. My circumstances here at the Gateway Recovery Centre are causing unnecessary delay in regaining my independence and resuming my usual life activities. I believe that I have reached a point in my recovery where staying at the centre is no longer a benefit to my personal well-being or future growth as the ‘Gateway Recovery Centre’ themselves cannot give me a diagnosis on autism which is essential for my further growth.

Under the Mental Health Act 1983 in the UK, individuals who are admitted to a mental health facility voluntarily should be discharged when they no longer need treatment or if treatment is not necessary. I strongly feel this applies to my situation, yet I am being held back by the judgment of a single individual rather than a fair and thorough assessment.

Therefore, I am calling on the relevant health authorities and board governing the Gateway Recovery Centre to intervene and reassess my case. I am requesting an independent review of my condition and release from the centre based on my current mental and physical health status.

Please sign this petition to help advocate for my right to make decisions about my own health and well-being and to pave the way for others who might face similar challenges. A signature will not only support my cause but also shine a light on the importance of personal freedom in mental health recovery. Your support can lead to significant change for those who feel powerless in their current situations. Thank you for standing with me. Please sign this petition and help me regain my independence and rightful place in society.
