Grandparent Rights

Grandparent Rights

The Issue

My son passed away almost 7 years ago, he was my only child. He has a daughter that was 16 months old when he died and she is almost 8 years old now. I have been in the Alabama courts since 2007 fighting for visitation. I had rights granted via a court order. For the last 3 years I haven't seen my granddaughter or talked to her. I have had phone visitation with her every week and spent a total of 6 weeks with her every year since then. The last that I spoke to her she was counting down the days until she came to see me for a 2 weeks summer visitation that I had to have court ordered. These laws need to be changed so that grandparents like me have a right per a deceased biological parent or not. We have a bond that can't and shouldn't be broken. I know she doesn't understand why she doesn't get to talk or see her granny. She is my only connection that I have of my son and I am hers.  You would think that it wouldn't have to be that way, having to fight for visitation by going to court to see your own grandchildren. Please Sign not only for me, but for other grandparents that are struggling to keep their relationship with their grandchildren.

Angie LeekPetition StarterI was a single mother for most of my son's life.. It was just always me and him. He passed away due to motorcycle injuries.. He lived for 7 days until he passed. That is when my life changed forever. I have been fighting for visitation with my granddaughter, my son's daughter, since October "07. All I want to do is share my love with her and give her knowledge of what her father was about and tell her that he loved her so much.. I promised him that she would always know who her daddy was, if it was the only thing that i had to do for him. Please sign this petition so we can make a difference in a child's life.
