Stop Dragging Students into Danger; Kerala University should CANCEL all Scheduled Exams

The Issue

The cases of novel corona virus are increasing sharply all over India. Most of the states are under lockdown affecting normal life including the day-today activities and transportation. Educational institutions and hostels are closed and students other than day-scholars have returned to their respective homes. The state capital of Kerala, Trivandrum, is facing gruesome risks on the wake of new spread of the virus. In this prevailing situation, University of Kerala, had announced the dates to conduct the CBCSS Post Graduate 4th Semester Examination with dubious insanity. There are around 150 colleges affiliated to the university panning over Five districts and students from all over the state are studying in these. Through such a decision, the University is pushing the students into the danger of infection or of the least problems of commutation and other related risks, which are higher for the girl students. This campaign is aimed at creating a public request to the Chancellor of the University (Hon. Governor of Kerala), the Vice Chancellor and the Minister of Education to take necessary steps inorder to cancel the CBCSS PG S4 Exams. UGC and the Hon. HRD Minister (GoI) has earlier recommended scrapping the final year exams of the university students (dated June 24,2020).

We urge the above said office holders to take necessary actions under these circumstances,

  • Kerala University is conducting exams even without completing the classes and course syllabus.
  • Students will have to travel long way to attend their exams and no properly planned public transportation facilities are available. Travelling in private vehicle is not possible for most of the students.
  • We have students from hotspot regions and containment zones and this can be a real issue for them and other students.
  • There is a strong opposition over conducting the examination from parents and general public which are published in various media coverages.
  • The students are pressured to prepare for the exams and online classes at the same time. Also, online classes are not affordable for every student.
  • Monsoon has begun and the rain will only increase the chances of being affected.
  • Physically handicapped students cannot use the online classes properly due to their limitations. They suffer a lot of trouble because of exams in this situation.
  • Moreover, the results of previous examinations are not yet published and it will be difficult for students in the future.

Considering these above points we urge the university to cancel the examinations and promote students on the basis of their previous records as suggested by UGC and followed by Central Universities like Delhi University.

Please sign and circulate till the concerned authorities take necessary action...
