Rising cases of exploitation of animals and birds in Pakistan has really infuriated me. I am just disgusted with the fact that such horrible crimes are committed in an Islamic country.  I love Pakistan but I am outraged by the lawlessness. 

I strongly condemn inhumane treatment of ALL animals -including birds and sea creatures. It is my firm belief that all living creatures are entitled to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation. All living things have soul hence they feel pain, fear, joy, anger, frustration, loneliness and affection. 

In Islam, animals rights were recognized 1400 years ago. In the Quran,, there are many references to animals,, detailing that they have souls, form communities, communicate with the God (Allah swt) and worship Him in their own way. Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)forbade his followers to harm any animal and asked them to respect the rights of animals.

Pakistan's Prevention of Cruelty Act (1890) is a joke. Doubt it if it was ever implemented & anyone was ever convicted according to this act.  From Tollinton Market (Lahore) to Express Market (Karachi), thousands of innocent beautiful creatures are exploited by cruel humans on a daily basis.  Animal Welfare NGOs i.e. ACF Animal Rescue, PAWS, Todd Welfare, JFK Animal Rescue etc  are trying hard to save as many animals as possible.  Capital Development Authority (CDA) shoots or poisons stray dogs. Recently, Marghazar zoo caretakers suffocated two lions to death. Tollinton Market is a graveyard of unfortunate animals. Animals traders don't vaccine the animals. Food and water is not given to the animals to reduce animal waste. Animals are kept in small cages or are chained in a very bad environment.

Widespread animal abuse by individuals and government institution MUST END. ONLY IGNORANT AND SELFISH PEOPLE WOULD DENY OTHERS' THE RIGHTS. I request Pakistan government to take strictest immediate measures to protect animals/birds/sea creatures' rights. Only any legislation is passed, implement these basic rules:-

Seller/buyer/owner MUST take positive steps to ensure they care for their animals/pets properly and MUST provide for the five welfare needs, which are:-

1. suitable environment
2. suitable diet
3. able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns
4. housed with, or apart from other animals
5. protected from pain,suffering, injury and disease.

Until strictest animal welfare laws are enforced, I request Government of Pakistan to SHUT DOWN all animal markets.
