Why This Matters:
Early adopters of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 and Silverado EV invested in flagship Ultium vehicles expecting market-leading software support and driver-assistance features.
While GM’s Super Cruise provides excellent hands-free driving on mapped highways, driving on everyday unmapped suburban and rural roads currently defaults to basic Lane Keep Assist. Instead of keeping the vehicle centered in the lane, the system only reacts after the truck begins drifting toward or crossing lane markings—ping-ponging between lines.
The Technical Reality:
Model Year 2024 Ultium trucks are built on GM’s VIP Global B digital architecture and carry the exact same suite of forward-facing cameras, radar arrays, and electric power steering hardware found on 2026 models. The physical capability for active, continuous, hands-on lane centering on unmapped roads is already present in these vehicles.
Our Request:
We call on General Motors to bring software parity to 2024 and 2025 Ultium vehicles by pushing Hands-On Steering Assist (Continuous Lane Centering) via an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update.
Why GM Should Act:
Safety & Fatigue Reduction: Continuous lane centering on routine, non-highway drives significantly reduces driver fatigue and prevents unintentional lane departures.
Competitive Parity: Continuous hands-on lane centering on unmapped roads is a standard driver-assist feature offered across direct competitor EV trucks.
