Stop the Proposal to Change the Catchment Area for Hillhead Primary School in Glasgow

Stop the Proposal to Change the Catchment Area for Hillhead Primary School in Glasgow
The Issue
Glasgow City Council is proposing that, from August 2015, 5-year olds in the geographical area local to Hillhead Primary School will not be able to attend their nearest school and will be required to cross the city, across multiple busy and dangerous city centre roads, to attend a primary school that is not in their local community. Glasgow City Council has numerous options it could consider, rather than re-drawing the current catchment boundary and creating an artificial one. This catchment change proposal is entirely against the Curriculum for Excellence's intention of embedding community links into the life and work of a school, due to the displacement of families towards geographical areas with which they have no link.
Please help to stop this proposal, which is currently being consulted upon, and has a public consultation end date of 29th September 2014.
It is most important that you also email your objections to: Schoolconsultations@glasgow.gov.uk
Your support to this petition can make a difference. Glasgow City Council is carrying out this consultation in compliance with the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. If the public does not object, there will be no evidence of dissent. Glasgow City Council will therefore proceed to change not only the primary school catchment areas around Hillhead and other primary schools but has also advised it will undertake a consultation to change the delineated areas of Hyndland Secondary School and Hillhead High School to reflect the changes to the primary catchment areas.
These learning communities in Glasgow are academically strong and flourishing. This is why they are popular. These school estates should be enhanced, rather than being fractured. Splintering communities to find an artificial solution to a problem caused by poor planning is not the answer.
