Why These Fucking £5-Profit Resellers Are Ruining the Market

The reselling market used to be simple: find good stock, source it for a decent price, understand what the market value is, sell it and make a worthwhile profit. That’s literally the fucking point of reselling. You’re taking risks with your money, spending time finding suppliers, dealing with customers, sorting deliveries and building a reputation so you can actually make money. But now you’ve got an army of stupid fucking new-plate resellers entering the market and thinking making £5 profit on an item makes them fucking Warren Buffett.

It doesn’t.

If you’re buying something for £50 and selling it for £55 just because you desperately want a sale, what the fuck are you actually doing? After packaging, delivery costs, payment fees, refunds and the time you’ve spent answering 400 messages from someone asking “best price bro?”, you’re basically working for fucking free.

And the worst part is that these people aren’t only fucking themselves over. They’re fucking the entire market.

Imagine an item is comfortably selling for £100. Sellers are making good money, customers are happy paying the price and everybody understands that roughly £100 is the market value. Then some dickhead comes along and decides to list it for £75 because he wants his money back immediately. Then another genius sees £75 and thinks, “I’ll do £70.” Then another absolute fucking businessman decides £65 sounds good.

Congratulations. You’ve now taken something people were perfectly happy paying £100 for and turned it into a fucking race to the bottom.

And for what?

Five fucking pounds.

That’s what makes it so ridiculous. You’re not undercutting everyone because you’ve discovered some revolutionary business strategy. You’re destroying your own margins for the price of a fucking meal deal and acting like you’ve cracked the reselling game.

There’s nothing wrong with competition. Competition is part of business. If everyone is selling something for £100 and you can comfortably sell it for £95 while still making a healthy margin, fair enough. Maybe you’ve got a cheaper supplier. Maybe your operating costs are lower. Maybe you want to attract some new customers. That’s called competitive pricing.

But dropping the fucking market by £20, £30 or £40 just so you can make £5 and shout “easy sale” is not competitive pricing. It’s fucking stupidity.

These sellers also don’t seem to understand basic maths. If you’re making £5 profit per sale and you want to make £1,000, you need 200 fucking sales.

Two hundred.

If you’re making £25 profit per item, you only need 40 sales to make the same £1,000. That’s 160 fewer customers, 160 fewer parcels and 160 fewer opportunities for something to go wrong.

Who the fuck voluntarily chooses the first option?

You’re going to spend five times longer packaging orders, replying to messages and sorting out problems just so you can say you’ve done more sales. Revenue doesn’t mean shit if there’s barely any profit left at the end.

Then you’ve got the effect it has on customers. Once customers repeatedly see something being sold for £60, suddenly £60 becomes the price they expect. You could have been comfortably selling it for £85 before, but now you’ll get some bloke messaging you saying, “Someone else has it for £60.”

Okay, then fucking buy it from them.

But because enough desperate sellers keep doing it, eventually everyone feels pressured to lower their prices. That’s how markets get absolutely fucked.

The funniest part is that these same sellers will eventually complain that “reselling is dead.”

No shit.

You fucking killed it.

You can’t spend six months undercutting everyone by £20 on every item and then act confused when there’s no money left in the market. What did you think was going to happen?

A proper reseller understands that customers aren’t only buying based on price either. Reputation matters. Customer service matters. Delivery speed matters. Communication matters. Having reliable stock matters. If you’ve built a trusted business with hundreds of successful orders, people will often happily pay slightly more because they know they’re actually going to receive what they ordered.

Instead of building that reputation, some new sellers think the only way to compete is being the cheapest person in the fucking group chat.

That’s not building a business. That’s begging for sales.

And before someone says this is about gatekeeping reselling, it isn’t. Every reseller was new at some point. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with new people entering the market. More competition can actually be good because it forces businesses to improve.

The problem is the fucking mentality.

If you’ve just started reselling, learn the market before you start randomly destroying prices. Work out what something normally sells for. Calculate your actual costs. Decide what margin makes the transaction worthwhile. Build customers. Build trust. Improve your sourcing.

Don’t buy something for £45, see everyone selling it for £80 and think, “I’ll do £51.”

What the fuck is the point?

You’re taking all the same risks as somebody making £30 profit while making a fraction of their money.

At the end of the day, reselling is supposed to make money. That’s the entire fucking purpose. Nobody is saying every item needs £100 profit or that everyone should charge ridiculous prices. Prices should still be fair and competitive.

But there needs to be some common fucking sense.

Stop destroying a perfectly healthy market because you’re desperate for one quick sale. Stop confusing revenue with profit. Stop racing other sellers to see who can make the least fucking money.

And most importantly, stop fucking selling shit for £5 profit and then wondering why the market is absolutely cooked.
