Why this petition matters

Started by Kieren Blackbourn

The Maldon skatepark was built late 2008/2009 with re used ramps from Burnham skatepark, The only changes done to it have been some paint jobs that have actually worsened the condition of the ramps and some tarmac at the bottom of the ramp to keep it to the ground, this has caused a small crater at the bottom of the ramp and is unsafe for small wheels.

It has been neglected by the council and is missing screws and the ramps flex quite a large amount when going down them, Many others have complained about this problem as many other petitions have been made on this site for this matter, The most recent of which being around five years ago and there has been no change after numerous promices of a large budget from the council but now the splash park is getting an upgrade. Another petition was also made about three years ago highlighting the same issues: https://www.change.org/p/maldon-district-council-maldon-skatepark-condition-change

An article was also written back in 2014 which complained about the issues of the skatepark which showed how the ramps have not been taken care of.

To this day, Maldon skatepark continues to become more unsafe and remains in a dangerous condition. Ramps are rusting and have visible cracks, there is also damage to the paint and the ramps are not flush to the floor, The tarmac is also very rough which can cause injuries to be way worse than if the floor was concrete as it cuts skin very easily, there are also cracks all over the floor where it has been laid incorrectly and needs a major refurbishment.

Riders have built a community and are aiming to achieve good from this, it has been 8 years now and still nothing from the council.
