The Issue

I am the councillor for Newtown, the city centre and the Garden Quarter. The entrance to our city is in a state with the bins on the back of Brook Street being as they are.

Flytipping and commercial dumping is the bane of my life down these parts and I'm grateful to council officers who've been helpful. I'm grateful too to the good businesses who do their bit.

But we need a bin storage. We need a cover to put the bins and a place for businesses to put those bins so we can enforce on the businesses that don't. The whole culture of careless disregard for our area needs changing. Sometimes you need a stick. But sometimes, too, you need a carrot.

I think a bin storage here is feasible and fundable. I have pushed for this for years and have worked with council officers on getting something sorted down Brook Street since 2025. Thank you for listening!

The entrance to our city from the east however deserves nothing less than action and change. We need to make sure the council knows the strength of public feeling for this.

If you agree with me, sign this petition. This is a city of good people and good businesses, not a city of flytippers.
