We have all experienced how this virus has impacted our lives.  In some ways it is a good thing- by this I mean it has caused us to slow down and enjoy the life that is all around us. In other ways it has created much chaos. For the majority - it has impacted their jobs and livelihoods, for others -it has impacted their families, while for the remainder- it has instilled a sense of anxiety.

We understand that our teachers, program coordinators and other college representatives are not responsible for the current circumstances; however, we feel that the way in which they are dealing with the situation is unfair.  Tuition fees remain the same, although our school environment has changed dramatically.   Many, if not all, of the facility fees charged to students such as Academic Technology support, Student association (which is not broken down as it has been in the past) and Canadian Federation of students- Ontario.  will not be utilized as all courses will be completed online.  That being said, students have been greatly impacted by this virus financially.  Most students are part-time employees, who often struggle to pay for their tuition fees in “normal” circumstances.

We appreciate the fact the schools are putting the health and safety of the students first by moving towards an online learning approach however, it will prevent students from meeting their full potential. Online delivery creates different experiences than in-person, hands on learning. Given these unprecedented times, we are of the view that tuition fees should be reduced accordingly to reflect the fact that students will not be utilizing these amenities during the upcoming semester.

The majority of students have been relying on the money from the Government, myself included- simply to cover family living expenses. stable.) To require students to pay for amenities that are not being utilized in these difficult times is a financial hardship, is unfair and inappropriate.

Most of us want to continue to complete our education in a timely manner rather than putting it on hold in offer to stabilize our finances.

If you agree with any or all of the points stated above, please sign this petition and pass it on to everyone you know who is impacted by this. Together we can make a change.
