Michael D. Jackson has served as a California Board of Registered Nursing (Board) member since 2012 and has repeatedly demonstrated unethical behavior, done little to nothing to advance nursing in this state, and failed to properly supervise the Board’s Executive Officer (EO). Jackson’s term as a member ended on June 1, 2020 and he does not deserve to stay on the Board for a one year “grace period.”  The Governor has the authority to remove Jackson from the Board. Please sign this petition—California  deserves better!

As a Board member, Jackson was fined by the Fair Political Practice Commission for illegally using campaign funds for personal use. He spent campaign monies at local restaurants, grocery stores and wrote checks to himself! Additionally, Jackson has repeatedly demeaned and disrespected members of the public during Board meetings. At one meeting, staff overheard him referring to a Registered Nurse as a "bitch." Also, Jackson has only been serving the vested interests of one nursing association irrespective of the adverse consequences for Registered Nurses, nursing students and healthcare consumers.

Jackson also failed to properly supervise the Board’s Executive Officer. Under his reign, the EO orchestrated and carried out a plan to defraud the California State Auditor by submitting falsified data. Equally alarming, women at the Board were forced to work in a hostile working environment as Jackson retained the EO despite formal sexual harassment complaints. Jackson needs to be removed from the Board. His action and inaction do not warrant the privilege of continuing to serve as a California Board of Registered Nursing Board member!
