The Issue

Four years ago, my life changed dramatically when I became a wheelchair user after a severe fall. Just imagine jumping from a four-story building and facing a stark reality of broken bones and a broken future. I shattered my back, broke my hips and ribs. My recovery journey involved spending eight months in the hospital, tirelessly working to master the use of a wheelchair. With only a 3% chance of walking again, the odds were undeniably stacked against me, but giving up was never an option.

I'm grateful for the progress I’ve made, and I’ve even found new passions, like art, but the reality is that recovery isn't just about personal determination. It requires resources that many of us simply don't have access to. Rehabilitation programs are crucial for people like me who have sustained spinal cord injuries. They provide us with the opportunity not just to survive but to thrive, discover new purposes, and adapt to our new realities.

Despite my progress, the physical toll remains. The constant wear and tear impacts my body, like the issues I face with my wrist now. These are challenges that far too many in our community are dealing with, and comprehensive rehabilitation could potentially ease these struggles and enhance our quality of life.

I am advocating for increased funding for rehabilitation programs specifically designed for spinal cord injury survivors. It’s about more than just learning to use a wheelchair; it's about regaining independence, finding new pathways for personal growth, and improving overall well-being. We deserve a chance to rebuild our lives with dignity and purpose.

Please join me in urging policymakers to invest in essential rehabilitation resources. Sign this petition to support funding that could transform the lives of countless people facing spinal cord injuries. Together, we can make a difference.
