The Issue

Jelly Roll’s journey isn’t just a story of fame, it’s a testament to what’s possible when we choose compassion over condemnation, and healing over punishment.

As fans, we’ve seen more than just the tattoos and the music. We’ve watched a man rise from the ashes of his past, own his mistakes, and build a life that lifts others.

Jason DeFord, known to the world as Jelly Roll, spent years behind bars in his youth. He doesn’t hide that. In fact, he sings about it, talks about it, and uses every stage he steps on, whether it’s at a concert, a prison, a school, or even Congress, to remind people that it's never too late to turn things around.

Since his release, Jelly Roll has become an advocate for recovery, literacy, and criminal justice reform. He’s comforted grieving families who lost loved ones to addiction, mentored young people at risk, and stood up for those who often go unseen and unheard. He’s earned Grammy nominations, but more importantly, he’s earned the respect of a community that believes in redemption.

The Tennessee Board of Parole has unanimously endorsed his pardon. Now, the final decision lies with Governor Bill Lee.

We believe Jelly Roll’s life reflects the very best of what rehabilitation can look like. Pardoning him would not erase his past, it would honor the courage it took to change, and the hope he now gives to others.

Let’s send a message that Tennessee recognizes growth, values second chances, and believes in the power of redemption.
