Free USA citizens unnecessarily charged n jailed

The Issue

Ithis petition is for my nephew Lee Dewayne Hinkle      A husband of 20 years is currently incarcerated in federal prison based on a crime of a nonviolent nature and was committed 40+ years ago the current charges he played guilty to his possession of a handgun. he was not authorized to carry due to his previous conviction. He was working down by the Mexican border And felt due to the violent climate in that region needed to carry protection. His name is Lee and is a middle-aged 61-year-old family man with 14 children and 19 grandchildren with more on the way, but all accounts he has been law abiding, and a great father and grandfather, supportive, loving and doing the best that he can Lee’s health is in a delicate state and he has medical issues well in prison that has not been intended to properly and has caused more health complications due to this lack of critical care he played guilty to the charges and was told by his lawyer he would not have to serve time on the contrary the judge threw the book at him. He and his family put their trust in the system yet once again, the system has failed a family man that is no threat to the American public. On the contrary Lee is a hard-working tax paying proud American, who has positively contributed to his community family and country for decades. He and his family believed by owning his wrongdoing he would be allowed to go home While he was going through the legal proceedings. His mother passed away, which as a result, his father committed suicide and intern caused severe anxiety, and he had a weak moment and fell back and used once methamphetamine which he admitted to while on bail and failed a urine test. We are all fallible . Alcohol drug, and substance addiction should not be judged as a crime, but treatment should be offered. Incarceration is just a push these people aside and hides the issue instead of dressing. It is willing and wanting counselling to help him both with his mental health as well as his addiction, which is a disease not a crime. The prison system has thrown him to the wolves placed him in a prison five hours away from his family and his support. His sentence they gave him is three years of federal time During the Christmas season. His wife and family were not able to travel to visit him. He and his family is not saying he is not accountable nor should he get off Scott free but a reasonable restitution that is both effective and compassionate as well as serves. The public justice is what we are asking for Please I ask of you all to sign this petition and let the justice system know this is not justice and to revisit his sentence to have fairness and to look at it with real eyes and compassion for a family middle-aged man who is just trying to do the best that he can thank you so much in advance.
