Fordham University’s slogan is New York is my campus, Fordham is my school, yet they do not provide any help to its students to make this statement accurate. They do not allocate discounted metro cards or Metro North tickets and most ridiculous of all, they force their students to pay for transportation between their two campuses.

            The Ram Van is Fordham’s inter-campus transportation between their Rose Hill campus in the Bronx and their Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan. It costs $3 each way, unless the student has an unpaid internship or a class at the other campus. Fordham costs nearly $60,000 a year, making it the seventh most expensive school in the country. The fact that Fordham is nickel and diming its students to transport them around a campus they pay this much for is preposterous. 

            Due to this added cost, many students like myself at Rose Hill's campus are not able to experience the city like they would like to. New York City is the greatest city in the world, however we all know that it is definitely not the cheapest. This extra $6 for a round trip on a college students' budget is something that can easily make the difference between staying in your dorm and experiencing the world. Not only do these costs take away New York City from Fordham students, they also hinder their ability for school spirit.    

            This minimal cost has much more of an impact on the students then the administration realizes. Since they would have to pay to travel to another campus, a lot of students are not going to go out of their way to meet students from the other school. It means that Lincoln Center kids are not going to travel to the Bronx for football games while Rose Hill students are not going to watch the Lincoln Center’s theater. This unnecesary charge divides our campuses into two, when in reality we should become one united school. If the Ram Van was free, I can guarantee that students would be more likely to make plans to visit other campuses.  Please help me unify Fordham University by making the Ram Van free!
