The Issue

We call on North East Lincolnshire Council to fly the 999 Emergency Services flag in Cleethorpes on 999 Day, and to recognise our emergency services through the Council’s civic flag policy.

Every day, our emergency services are there when we need them most.

Firefighters, police officers, ambulance crews, control room staff and other emergency workers work tirelessly to protect and support our communities. They respond to emergencies, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances, and provide an essential service to residents across North East Lincolnshire.

999 Day is an opportunity to say thank you.

We are asking the Reform Administration in North East Lincolnshire Council to fly the 999 Emergency Services flag in Cleethorpes on 999 Day as a simple but meaningful public recognition of the people who serve our communities.

The Council has previously recognised other groups through commemorative flags, including flying flags for Armed Forces Day. We fully support recognising the contribution of our Armed Forces, but believe the same principle should apply to our emergency services.

Flying the 999 flag does not replace meaningful support for emergency services. It simply provides an opportunity for our community to publicly acknowledge and thank those who work to keep us safe.

We believe our emergency services deserve to be recognised and celebrated alongside other groups who serve our country and communities.

We are therefore calling on North East Lincolnshire Council to:
- Fly the 999 Emergency Services flag in Cleethorpes on 999 Day.
- Recognise 999 Day within the Council’s civic calendar.
- Review the current flag policy to ensure that appropriate commemorative flags can be flown to recognise our emergency services and other groups who make a significant contribution to our communities.

Please sign this petition and show our emergency services that North East Lincolnshire appreciates everything they do.
