Emma Hunter started this petition to Floraco and

Fresh cut flowers were once wrapped in paper as a means of protection, this is not the case anymore. Almost all flowers bought from flower wholesalers that are either imported from overseas or grown locally are wrapped in plastic, cardboard and paper with some having individual flower heads in seperate plastic sleeves or polystyrene nets. Delicate flowers are packed in boxes with layers of plastic packing material which could easily be substituted for shredded paper.

This amount of packaging is not only extremely wasteful but unnecessary. With soft plastics being difficult to recycle they mostly end up in the general waste bin on their way to landfill. This huge amount of rubbish can be stopped by simply swapping to paper wraps, which will use far less packaging and end the plastic waste currently made. This plastic can end up in water ways like rivers and the oceans, which choke marine life and pollute our beautiful spaces because it can easily be caught in the wind and carried away.

Flowers are a natural and botanical item that should be as natural as possible, without the need for copious amounts of plastic waste. Help me by signing this petition to let our floral wholesalers know that we want them to transition to a plastic free solution to protecting cut flowers.
