The issue

Petition to Urgently Repair the Point Cook Road Bridge over Freeway.

We, the undersigned residents, commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians of Laverton, Altona Meadows, Seabrook, Sanctuary Lakes and Point Cook, call on VicRoads and the Victorian Government to urgently assess and repair the ageing bridge over the freeway at Point Cook Road.

This bridge is clearly no longer meeting the needs of our rapidly growing community.

The bridge has several serious issues that are becoming increasingly dangerous:

- A severe dip where the bridge joins the roadway has worsened significantly and now acts almost like a speed bump.

- Vehicles travelling at normal road speeds risk suspension, tyre, or underbody damage when crossing the bridge.

- There is only a single “Dip Ahead” warning sign despite the growing hazard.

- The pedestrian path is extremely narrow and unsafe for modern traffic volumes.

- There is effectively no safe space for cyclists.

- The surrounding roads are already undergoing upgrades, making this the ideal time to address the bridge properly rather than leaving dangerous infrastructure untouched.

This is not just an inconvenience — it is a public safety issue.

Residents should not have to slow to unsafe speeds, risk vehicle damage, or fear accidents simply to cross a major arterial route.

Pedestrians and cyclists also deserve safe access infrastructure that reflects the needs of a modern and growing suburb.

With increasing traffic volumes we urge immediate action before this problem becomes even more dangerous or costly.

We call on VicRoads and the Victorian Government to:

1. Conduct an urgent structural and safety assessment of the bridge.

2. Repair the dangerous road dip immediately.

3. Upgrade the bridge surface and transitions to meet modern road safety standards.

4. Investigate widening or redesigning pedestrian and cycling access.

5. Commit to long-term replacement or major refurbishment planning for the bridge.

Our community deserves safe, modern infrastructure — not temporary warning signs for worsening road conditions.
