Fix congestion at Oran Park Public School
The issue
Every morning and afternoon, the streets around Oran Park Public School transform into a scene of chaos. I am a parent whose child attends this wonderful school, yet I find myself dreading pick-up and drop-off times due to the dangerous and unmanageable congestion. Currently, hundreds of families brave these daily challenges, facing frustration and potential safety hazards while navigating the inadequate pick-up and drop-off system.
Oran Park Public School, situated in a rapidly growing community, accommodates around 1,400 to 1,600 students. We have experienced phenomenal growth, but our school's policy for efficiently managing the large volume of traffic has not kept pace. The Kiss & Drop area, accessed via Dick Johnson Drive, is poorly organized, and with limited space availability at the front of the school, the situation is becoming increasingly untenable. The gates open at 2:40PM, creating a logjam of vehicles and a dire lack of space for ensuring a safe, orderly transition when students come and go.
We, as concerned parents, community members, and stakeholders, call on the Camden Council and relevant authorities to address these critical issues without delay. Immediate actions that need to be considered include expanding the Kiss & Drop area maybe moving the line into school grounds, improving traffic flow systems, additional car spaces , or the possibility of staggering each year groups end of school time.
In advocating for these changes, we aim not only to improve safety but also to enhance the value of our school environment. Our children deserve to arrive at and leave their school without the risk of danger, us parents deserve to not dread school pick up/drop off or face potential enforcement action. It's crucial that our local government responds to these pressing needs, ensuring our growing community is supported with the infrastructure it requires for daily life.
Parents who arrive at the designated time can still spend 30+minutes attempting to leave the school precinct, despite living only minutes away. This creates significant congestion and means some children are at risk of being late when arriving at school because of the same traffic-management problems.
Your signature can make a significant difference in pushing these changes forward and ensuring that our calls for action are heard. Please support this petition to help us secure a safer future for all children and families at Oran Park Public School.
