Fix air-conditioning at Fitness First – North Strathfield
Fix air-conditioning at Fitness First – North Strathfield
The issue
For more than three years, members of Fitness First North Strathfield (NSW) have experienced ongoing issues with unreliable and inconsistent air-conditioning. Since early 2025, the primary workout area has had completely non-functional air-conditioning, despite repeated assurances from gym management that repairs were underway. Over recent months, the situation has worsened, with no confirmed timeline, no transparency, and no visible progress.
As committed members, we are increasingly concerned about the risks this poses to our health, safety, and overall wellbeing. With peak summer approaching and the prolonged failure to restore proper cooling and ventilation has created an unsafe and unacceptable training environment.
Key Concerns:
Serious health risks due to high temperatures, including:
- Heat exhaustion
- Dehydration
- Dizziness and overheating
Hazardous humidity and poor air quality, which elevate the spread of:
- COVID-19
- Influenza A & B
- Other respiratory illnesse
Stagnant air conditions, contributing to:
- Accumulation of sweat, bacteria, and odours
- Increased risk of respiratory discomfort and illness
Compromised workout environment, resulting in:
- Inability to train safely
- Reduced performance and workout effectiveness
- Higher likelihood of injury due to heat stress
Full membership fees continue to be charged, despite:
- Significantly reduced service quality
- Ongoing unavailability of basic facility standards
- Lack of appropriate mitigation measures
Member complaints remain unresolved, with responses limited to:
- Vague updates
- Claims of parts being unavailable
- Ongoing dependency on building management
- No concrete solutions or commitments
Our Request for Immediate Action
We call on Fitness First North Strathfield to take urgent, transparent, and accountable action, including:
- Immediate repair and restoration of the air-conditioning system across the entire gym
- A clear and detailed repair timeline, communicated in writing to all members
- Prompt sourcing of required parts with confirmation of expected delivery dates
- Open communication on progress and any barriers to resolution
- Active engagement with building management to ensure timely cooperation and eliminate delays
- Implementation of temporary cooling solutions (e.g., industrial fans, portable AC units) until full repairs are completed
- Reduction in member fees and retrospectively reimbursement for the months without AC
Why This Matters
Members have a right to a safe, comfortable, and hygienic training environment, especially when paying full membership fees. The current conditions are unacceptable and do not meet reasonable expectations of health, safety, or service quality.
Call to Action
Sign this petition to demand that Fitness First North Strathfield urgently fix its air-conditioning system and restore a safe, healthy, and operational workout environment for all members.
Together, we can hold the gym accountable and advocate for the standards and conditions we rightfully deserve.
