Fight for Equal Representation of Women in Health Research

The Issue

My name is Rian, a resident of Stockton, CA. As a woman, I understand the importance of having comprehensive knowledge about medical treatments and therapies that are effective for my body. It's not just about me; it affects every woman who seeks to understand how various interventions may specifically impact her health.

Despite women making up approximately half the global population, they are underrepresented in medical research. This lack of representation can lead to significant gaps in our understanding of women's health and the effectiveness of treatments tailored specifically for them.

For instance, according to a report by Brigham and Women’s Hospital (2014), despite cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of death among women in America, only one-third of cardiovascular clinical trial subjects were female. This disparity extends beyond heart disease; it is seen across numerous areas within medical research.

The city we live in - Stockton - has an opportunity to change this narrative by advocating for more inclusive research practices that ensure equal representation based on gender.

We must push our local healthcare institutions and policymakers to prioritize gender diversity within their studies and trials. By doing so, we can help create a future where medical research includes all genders equally - providing accurate data that benefits everyone.

This issue is personal to me because as a woman living in Stockton CA., I want assurance that my healthcare decisions are informed by accurate data reflecting people like me – not just men or an average patient but specific data on women’s health outcomes.

Let us stand together as residents of Stockton and demand better representation for women in medical research! Please sign this petition today!
