Fight for a world made of stories: let’s be TZERØ

Il problema

We wake up, check our social network and messages, then go to school or work, randomly interact with friends or colleagues: that’s a common experience for many of us.

Books, movies and games, though, have a much more colorful world: messages in the morning are a call to action, school is a world of adventure and work is usually about a big cause.

Everything sparkles. This is what we love as little kids.

Why should we give up as adults?

Let’s join forces, and make each other’s lives full of meaning: let’s use our creativity and inner kid to make wonderful stories happen in our lives. Let’s make emotions flow without borders, meaning be common as breathing.

Let’s encourage any form of narrative: any form of art, whether it be physical or digital, with no difference. Let’s see videogames as a work of art that tells a story.

Let’s make it happen in the real world: in libraries, cafès, game shops, theatres.

Let’s go beyond the world’s game, full of war and loss. Let’s extend our hands, open our hearts, dream like little kids once again. Together.

Let us be beyond any type of barrier that keeps us apart: ranking systems, distrust, and our destiny itself.

Let’s write a new story for us ourselves together as equals, a world that belongs to us and is beyond numbers, full of art, passion and meaning.

Let us be TZERØ.

Where does the name come from?
TZERØ was born in the gaming environment, as a group of people that wanted to enjoy content beyond monetization strategies, beyond the ranking. The project didn't bring fruit in that environment Someone reminded me that "A failed project isn't meant to be a game's history", but I believe in this ideal, and I wanted to explore the world and share it with kindred minds.

Where does this initiative go to?
My dream is that, one day, our phones will be lighted up by messages that hold meaning and call to action to take a step into the world and contribute to some artistic self-expression. Of any sort. I dream of a group of free artists that motivate each other, that meet, leave, join groups, learn, then go somewhere else. I dream of the "contemporary" adventurer, that lives both in the digital and the real world, someone who is eager to express themselves and their colors without worry.

How do I think it can get there?
From small things: sitting at a coffee place working with a laptop on a novel, besides another random person that is maybe studying design, and someone else that is going for photography, while listening to their friend's piece of music with their headphones. From hubs of creative, free minds that do their stuff not for money or companies, but for the intrinsic need of self-expression.
And from small gestures: maybe finding out that TZERØ is offering you a coffee, that day, even if you, the person at the coffee, are just a new clueless member. And your will to give back that coffee to someone else, and maybe two. Yes, you paid your coffee in the end, but it's the feeling of connection - and the free choice two people made, to make that coffee pass through - that counts.

What about your story?
I like seeing my life as a slice-of-life novel, full of colors and hardships at the same time. I can't settle for one job, close the book and call it a day: I want to meet new people, cultures, places, forms of art. I love videogames as I grew up with them, and I love when they try conveying meaning with their stories. Some of them changed my life. A few made me encounter special people, world I've never thought that would've ever existed, situations that would've never happened. Some just made me cry, because the story they were telling was full of meaning, and I could mirror into them. The same goes with other forms of digital art, like game music, or anime. I am but a dreamer, that wants a more rosy world for everyone.

What about the cover of the petition?
That's Chitanda Eru from Hyouka. She is there as the story talks about the value of living life for its hidden meaning, and to make it - as I mentioned - rosy, colorful, full of meaning. All rights reserved to the talented artists that worked on the anime.

Does my signature count?
Every signature on the paper is a heart that believes. I believe in the power of many voices coming together. It moves my heart, and makes me cry each time I see it happens.

Can I do something else?
Absolutely: tell us your own story in the comments: what made you feel like the world was full of art and meaning? Was it because of digital arts, or was it beyond that? Do you also dream about finding new meaning and narrative in your future?

Is this petition going to change?
Not in its core values: I'll try just adding down below, with more material and stories from who believes in this world. I am lucky to have friends that do, and make arts and live lives in this way already. I'll ask them for permission to tell a bit about their stories, or let them write for me, as I just add them to this paper.

When do we win?
We win when a dreaming heart can still dream even during conflict. We win when we look outside the window, and we feel our heart burn of curiosity and passion. We win every time a strong feeling rises inside us, and we think we're not alone, that we're all together in this.
We win every day. The idea for this petition is to just join hands while this happens.

Is there a place to talk?
Any place is good to talk, that's the spirit of the initiative. If you want one online, though, we can make it happen. Maybe on Discord, maybe somewhere even more open. I'll think about it!
