Reverse the Ban on the Independence Referendum in Schools and Allow Teachers and Pupils to Discuss it Freely.

Reverse the Ban on the Independence Referendum in Schools and Allow Teachers and Pupils to Discuss it Freely.
The Issue
The referendum on Scottish Independence is a vote which will have huge repercussions for our great country, regardless of what the outcome of the vote is. Bearing this in mind do you not think, like I do, that the electorate need to be educated on what voting either way will mean for them, their friends and families and their country as a whole. Frankly, this includes the 16 & 17 year olds who will be voting for the first time on the 18th of September. We are, arguably, the most vulnerable to external influence and in my opinion, should be learning about the referendum from impartial sources. So I ask where better a place is there than the places that young people like me learn everything else that will prepare them for the future - our schools. However some councils, including my own Fife Council, have decided to ban all talk of the referendum from schools in the last few weeks before the vote. This will mean that many young people that are still undecided could end up voting the opposite of what they actually believe. This is why I beg of you to please sign the petition to reverse the referendum ban in schools – regardless of whether you are voting yes or, and even regardless of whether you believe young people should have the right to vote or not in the first place. By signing this petition you are telling councils across the country that are dictating what can and can't be talked about in schools that we won't let this blow over, because this is our future too and we want to talk about it.
