Include women's football leagues on FIFA
The Issue
I want to solve the issue of female football leagues being excluded from FIFA gaming. The first FIFA game was released in 1993, and the WSL was founded in 2010. As a game that has been around for over two decades, they've got the resources and 10 years to include the Women's Super League as an option in their game but still haven't. I appreciate that in 2016, the ability to play as female national teams was developed and although this was hugely significant, it is still not enough. I am also aware that many other female leagues across the globe aren't showcased on FIFA such as Division 1 Féminine, resulting in more teams excluded from having equal representation. By including female football leagues and using your amazing platform you could increase the audience for female football.
Being 2020, many things are now done online and we can see a rise in online gaming. FIFA is one of the most popular video games of this century with millions of users. My issue is that how are young aspiring female footballers able to connect and play as the likes of Messi however cannot play as Ellen White and can play as the legend Catona but not Alex Scott? The inequality is still prevalent in small things such as video games and has a knock-on effect. Aspiring female footballers, like me, have role models and dreams to chase but how can we follow these when it seems the most popular game doesn't support this or exhibit the most popular female league in the world?
Furthermore, my concern is for the future generation, the generation of girls who desire to be footballers for domestic clubs and their country. The lack of female footballers in FIFA implies to girls that women's football is not taken seriously. Girls and women should be able to play the game and be whoever they want to be yet this is prevented by the shortage of female representation in games like FIFA.
In conclusion, coming from an aspiring footballer and having grown up playing FIFA almost daily, I am asking for you to include female football leagues in FIFA going forwards.
More coverage is required and I believe this is possible if we all come together and get this petition noticed!
