FBI SUPPORTS RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC AND ANTI-MILITARY GROUP FROM TEXAS
The Issue
The FBI has admitted that members of an anti-gay fundamentalist group participated in the bureau's training of police officers and FBI agents. The FBI extended the invitations to Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., for training this spring at two bureau facilities in Virginia: Quantico and Manassas. The FBI said it invited members of the controversial church in order to teach people in the bureau's counterterrorism training program how to deal calmly with people they disagree with.
National Public Radio who broke this story and told everyone of the FBI's secret involvement with Westboro, reports that the program was not sanctioned by the most senior members of the FBI, who only found out about the Westboro invitations after more than 200 officers and agents had attended the sessions. Almost immediately afterward, the officers and agents sent memos asking why the group had been invited.
Westboro, the hate filled group is very well known for their raucous demonstrations at the funerals of U.S. military service members. The group contends God is punishing the military for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.
At FBI headquarters in Washington, bureau spokesman Paul Bresson acknowledged that Westboro was invited to the training sessions but refused to answer any questions when asked why the group was invited. An FBI official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said that in retrospect, the bureau underestimated how the involvement of the outside organization would be perceived. Your joking right? You may have as well invited the KKK or Freaking Hitler for that matter. What a joke! You didn't know how it would be perceived! How else do you think it would have been perceived?
The FBI later admitted that the invitation to Westboro "was done in an effort to establish open dialogue in an academic setting to train law enforcement on how to more effectively engage with the activist community." Oh, that's ok then. It was to teach them how to have an open dialogue. That makes it all better - NOT!! Whoever invited them needs to lose their job; period!!
AMERICA DESERVES AN ANSWER AS TO WHY OUR GORVENERMENT NOW SUPPORTS A GROUP THAT FOR YEARS HAS ACTIVELY SPREAD RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC AND ANTI-MILITARY REMARKS AND PROTESTS!!
