family calling for bowel cancer awareness change after diagnosis

family calling for bowel cancer awareness change after diagnosis

The Issue

•Lewis’s Story — Why NHS Cancer Guidelines Must Change

My partner’s journey through the healthcare system has been heart-wrenching and eye-opening.

3 months of going to our GP each time Lewis's was turned away with antibiotics because his symptoms wasn’t considered a symptom of bowel cancer. It wasn’t until the end of December when Lewis returned to the GP because his symptoms had changed to constant stomach pain that didn’t go away and only got worse. The Dr sent him home with a fit test and By the 3rd of January he received a phone call being referred for a colonoscopy. 4 weeks later they confirmed stage 3 cancer.
nothing Prepare you for words like that.
This is why I started this Petition to raise awareness and because the system needs to change.

Lewis's bowel cancer showed through swollen lymph nodes, a symptom many people would never connect to bowel cancer because it isn’t clearly emphasised in current awareness information.

This petition is not just about us.

It’s about making sure families aren’t reassured and sent home simply because cancer didn’t present in the expected way.

You may never meet us.
But one day, you or someone you love will rely on the NHS to notice something early.

Please don’t scroll past thinking your signature won’t matter.

It genuinely could help change how future patients are recognised sooner.

If you’ve read this — please take 30 seconds to sign today

In the UK, around 40% of cancers are diagnosed at an advanced stage, when treatment options are more limited and survival chances are significantly reduced. Delays in recognising early warning signs are a major contributing factor.

We are calling on the National Health Service to review and update cancer diagnostic guidance so that swollen lymph nodes are recognised as an important potential indicator for bowelcancer.

This change could lead to earlier diagnoses, improved survival rates, and ultimately save lives.

Please sign and share this petition to help ensure that no patient experiences delayed treatment because vital symptoms were overlooked.
If you work in healthcare, media, or policy — please help us reach the right people.” Thank you 🙏🏻
