Reinstate Ruse de Guerre's right to play Anti-Trump concert for charity

The Issue

Ruse de Guerre organized an Anti-Trump Concert/Community Arts Festival to occur on August 13th. This event had a legal permit to take place at Southgate Community Center in Reston, VA, and would have been a free admission, all-inclusive event supporting DC's homelessness charity, SOME(So Others Might Eat). Additionally, we had volunteers available to administer voter registration to attendees. Friday August 12th, less than 24 hours before our event, we received news that our event permit had been nullified. After the event was featured on the home page of Reston Now, Trump supporters barraged Fairfax County authorities with complaints and threats about the concert. The editor that wrote about the show on the Reston Now website has been receiving all kinds of complaints and nasty emails, criticizing her "political bias,". Fairfax County had the choice to defend our right to free speech and assembly. We had all the proper permits to use public property to host a benefit concert and at the first sign of controversy they shied away in cowardice and punished us for attempting to do some good for the community. Fairfax County cited our event as a "safety concern," though they did not feel that way until after giving us permission to hold the concert; they weren't concerned until after the Trump supporters started voicing their disapproval and making threats. We aren't looking to take money from the Fairfax County taxpayers, we just want Fairfax County to admit what they did, protect our and everyone else's right to assembly and free speech, and let us play the show. This event was entirely put together by people between the ages of 18-22, with our target audience being the same age range. We had an estimated 250-300 people coming to our event, which would have been greatly beneficial to the voting landscape and the DC homeless community. Our age demographic is constantly chastised for our political inaction and apathy; however when we actually try to make a difference in our society, we are treated with disrespect by higher-ups we stand no chance against. Fairfax County's decision to cancel our event and revoke us of our freedom to peacefully assemble sets an embarrassing, frustrating, and scary precedent. With all of this in mind, it is imperative that the show happens now more than ever. Edwards v. South Carolina, 372 U.S. 229 (1963): "A disorderly crowd, or the fear of one, cannot be used to stop a peaceful demonstration or cancel the right of peaceable assembly"
