Close the Colorado River to Recreation

Close the Colorado River to Recreation
The Issue
Please take a moment to sign this petition to pressure local and state officials to temporarily close the sections of the Colorado River currently open to recreation. The goal is not to be the ‘fun police,’ but to deter tourism and those with vacation homes from escaping more rigorous recreational limits in California and Nevada during the COVID-19 pandemic who are looking to boat and ‘holiday.’
By closing the remainder of the river, people will cease pouring in at such high numbers and thus not be bringing urban exposure to COVID-19 to rural Arizona. This will truly curtail the spread of infection that will certainly overwhelm our local medical system and resources. (And people are pouring in.)
This isn’t an anti-CA petition. But data clearly suggests that these people have a higher risk of infection based on living in an urban area in states that are hotspots.
We need to protect our people. The tribes have taken action and now it’s up to us to ‘close up’ so that we spare our people. IHS and La Paz Regional are not equipped to handle a landslide of cases. As we are a small town these visitors still frequent our supermarkets, Walmart, gas stations, etc. Which means we will continue to be exposed by the aforementioned people.
We love our visitors and vacation home people. They help drive our economy but now is not the time.
Please SHELTER-IN-PLACE at your primary residence (as per your stated instructions) in your home state, so as not to decimate our people. (E.g. CA has closed the beaches, parks, Big Bear, etc. Nevada closed Lake Mead.)
The sooner we truly social distance and stop unnecessary travel, the sooner we can reopen!
P.S. The number of cases should start to climb in Parker, in the coming days as the few who have tested positive were indeed from CA visiting their vacation property as well as numerous confirmed bars, restaurants, stores, the Casino, etc.
