The Issue

My son, along with countless others, have passed their theory tests and are ready to embark on their journey of driving. However, securing a slot for the practical driving test has become a daunting obstacle due to overwhelming demand and lack of timely appointments. Some unfortunate individuals have failed their practical tests and are compelled to wait a monotonous six months to try again.

As we navigate the aftermath of the pandemic, situations like these amplify existing inefficiencies within our system. Based on data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, about 1.7 million practical driving tests were conducted in the UK between 2020 and 2021. But only approximately 45% of these candidates were successful on their first attempt (source: DVSA). Given these statistics, it's apparent that many aspiring drivers tolerate an extended waiting period before they can retake the test.

In light of these challenges, we are petitioning to extend the validity of the theory test pass certificates from two years to three. This proposed extension will not only accommodate the high demand for practical tests but also reduce the pressure on test candidates who face lengthy waiting times. Life beyond the pandemic necessitates adaptability and understanding, and this suggested change reflects that sentiment.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a fair and just change which benefits many waiting to obtain their driver's license. Please, join us. Sign this petition and help extend the validity of theory test pass certificates to three years.
