Extend Employment insurance sickness benefits from 26 weeks to 45.

Extend Employment insurance sickness benefits from 26 weeks to 45.
The Issue
Hello all,
My name is Carol Lepp and I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma with triple negative breast cancer on December 20/22.
I was given 26 weeks of sickness benefits and they ended on July 18/23.
I had not even finished my chemotherapy, when my benefits ended. I am not only fighting cancer. I am also fighting a financial burden, that is so overwhelming, it is very hard to stay positive at times.
I never expected to, get the dreaded call, that I had cancer. But I did.
When the fog clears, is when it sinks in about the financial aspect, of not being able to work.
How are you going to pay the bills when employment insurance sickness benefits run out after 26 weeks, and you still can't work??
Think about this and how it would impact your life, or the life of a loved one.
We all need to protect ourselves. It has been a very humbling experience for me to say the least. I had a great paying job. I made over 60K in 2022. We don't plan on getting that phone call.
When my benefits were ending, my sister started a gofundme, to help me keep a roof over my head. I am extremely grateful and touched with everyone's generosity.
This is the link for the fundraiser my sister has organized
I am certainly not out of the woods yet. I will not be returning to work until at least March 2024. I am living on CPP and will be topped up by Ontario disability to approximately, $1500 per month. My rent is almost that much. Then how do you eat? How do you pay for other bills?
PLEASE, DON'T WAIT TILL THIS IS YOU.
Please sign and share.
People battling for their lives, should not have to fight a financial burden. There are so many people in this position, it sickens me.
PLEASE SHARE We will demand change for our fellow Canadians!!!
