Expand TSA priority lanes to include caregivers and seniors—not just families and military
The Issue
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Thursday that the TSA will open security lanes dedicated to families and military service members.
TSA’s new “Families on the Fly” and “Honor Lane” programs are a step in the right direction. Dedicated security lanes for families with small children and military service members show that we can design airport screening with compassion and common sense.
But these changes leave out a large group of travelers who also deserve support: caregivers, elderly passengers, and those with mobility or cognitive challenges.
Whether it’s a grandparent traveling alone, someone helping an aging parent through a crowded terminal, or a caregiver assisting a person with dementia or a disability—these travelers often face longer wait times, higher stress, and less access to accommodations. And many are not eligible for TSA PreCheck or don’t know how to access it.
We’re calling on Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and the TSA to expand access to priority screening lanes and policies so that caregivers, seniors, and people traveling with medical or accessibility needs receive the same respect, efficiency, and care already being extended to families and military members.
Travel should be safe, secure, and dignified—for everyone.
