Every Child Deserves the Chance to Have a Go

Every Child Deserves the Chance to Have a Go
The issue
Tomorrow is the TAS Interhouse Sports Carnival.
Today, many students were informed for the first time that they would not be participating in any events because they had not qualified during practice sessions. Many parents were also unaware that a selection process was in place.
As a result, a number of children came home upset and disappointed, having learned just one day before the carnival that they won't get the opportunity to represent their house or participate.
School sporting carnivals should be about more than finding the fastest runners. They should be about participation, inclusion, confidence, school spirit, and giving every child the opportunity to challenge themselves and experience the excitement of being involved.
Not every child will win a race. Not every child will stand on the podium. But every child deserves the chance to step onto the field and have a go.
We are calling on TAS to review this approach and ensure future carnivals provide meaningful participation opportunities for all students, while still celebrating athletic achievement and competition.
If you believe school sport should be inclusive and that every child deserves the opportunity to participate, please sign and share this petition.
Because school sport should build confidence, not leave children sitting on the sidelines.
