Melbourne, Australia, Wants a Referendum to JOIN the European Union

Melbourne, Australia, Wants a Referendum to JOIN the European Union
The issue
For the last 20 years, Melbournians have looked on in envy as Europeans enjoy the benefits of being part of the EU, in particular being able to freely live, study and work in 28 different countries, like the UK, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece and so on.
Likewise, thousands if not millions of Europeans have fallen in love with our wide, brown land only to be forced to leave once their two year working holiday visa has expired.
Not only does Australia already compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, but we could probably go toe-to-toe with the EU in terms of bureaucracy and trade regulation (check out our quarantine laws!). Melbourne already hosts the largest Greek population outside of Greece. We also have amazing espresso coffee, thanks to our Italian-Australian community. No doubt, Melbourne has benefited immensely from migration and trade with EU nations.
It only makes sense that joining the EU would be a win-win proposition for all parties involved. Now that Britain has voted to leave the EU and instantly regretted its decision, we can all learn from their mistakes and hold a referendum for MELBOURNE TO JOIN THE EUROPEAN UNION!
