Establishing Hardship License Law in Mississippi for Class A and B Licenses

The Issue

Petition for Legislative Action: Establishment of a Hardship License Program for Adults, Including Class A and B Licenses

To the Honorable Members of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate:

We, the undersigned citizens of the State of Mississippi, respectfully petition our elected officials to introduce and support legislation that would establish a hardship driver’s license program for adults, with the following provision:

Proposal:

That qualifying individuals be granted the opportunity to obtain a hardship driver’s license, including the option for Class A and Class B commercial driving privileges, provided they meet all federal and state safety requirements.

Rationale:

1. Employment Opportunities – Many Mississippians are unable to access stable employment due to lack of driving privileges. Establishing a hardship license program for adults, including Class A and B, would open doors for good-paying jobs in trucking, construction, and related industries.

2. Economic Growth – Mississippi businesses face a shortage of qualified drivers. Allowing adults with hardship licenses to drive commercially would strengthen the workforce and support local economies.

3. Fairness and Rehabilitation – Adults who have met requirements and demonstrated responsibility should have a pathway to employment and self-sufficiency. A hardship license program would provide this opportunity.

Conclusion:

We believe that establishing a hardship license program for adults, including Class A and B commercial licenses, is a matter of fairness, economic necessity, and public benefit. We respectfully urge our lawmakers to draft and pass legislation to make this possible.

To the Honorable Members of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate:

We, the undersigned citizens of the State of Mississippi, respectfully petition our elected officials to introduce and support legislation similar to the previously considered hardship license bill [House Bill 739], with the following expansion:

Proposal:

That individuals who qualify for a hardship driver’s license also be granted the opportunity to obtain Class A and Class B commercial driving privileges, provided they meet all federal and state safety requirements.

Rationale:

1. Employment Opportunities – Many Mississippians are unable to access stable employment due to lack of driving privileges. Establishing a  hardship licenses program for adults, including Class A and B, would open doors for stable, good-paying jobs in trucking, construction, and related industries.

2. Economic Growth – Mississippi businesses face a shortage of qualified drivers. Allowing hardship license holders to drive commercially would strengthen the workforce and support local economies.

3. Fairness and Rehabilitation – Many individuals who have paid their dues and demonstrated responsibility should not be permanently barred from better employment opportunities. Expanding the hardship license program would give people a fair chance to rebuild their lives.

Conclusion:

We believe that establishing the hardship license program to include Class A and B commercial licenses is a matter of fairness, economic necessity, and public benefit. We respectfully urge our lawmakers to draft and pass legislation to make this possible.
